You’ve probably seen Essential Oils popping up and wondered what they’re all about or why people use them. I thought I’d take a minute to tell you guys what made us join the hippie life with Young Living.
Why we went Oily/Hippie
Sleep – One of the biggest things that attracted us to oils and made us jump and buy that beautiful Aria Diffuser (pictured above) was sleep. Mack is an insomniac and has been for years. He never sleeps and if he does fall asleep he wakes up an hour later and can’t go back to sleep. We started out diffusing lavender when we go to bed and let’s just say it has been killer for our sleep. Last night we diffused Lavender + Cedarwood… smelled amazing.
Skincare – I have been on prescription acne medicine since my Sophomore year of college. I loved my acne meds because they cleared up my skin years ago when nothing else would.. but like all medicine it wasn’t perfect. My medicine was topical and had to be applied every night and caused my face to be very sensitive. I’m a sephora and ulta sample lover but could never try any new face masks etc. because I never knew how my face would react. Over the years I’ve had severe dryness from chapsticks, moisturizers, face wash, and all that good stuff as a reaction to my medicine.
I was seriously tired of not being able to try new things and my face breaking out every time I stopped using my prescription. So, finally this past December I stopped using my prescription and let my face breath for a month. Then I started using a blend my cousin gave me a sample of.. she called it happy face.. a mixture of tea tree, frankincense, lavender, lemon and Jojoba as a carrier oil. (Jojoba for dry skin or Witch Hazel for oily skin). This blend seriously makes my face happy. I have been using it every night before bed and I love it.
Avoiding the Run Down – We are a busy couple. Just this year we’ve already traveled from GA back to CA. Big Bear for a weekend, Austin for a weekend, and San Diego for a weekend. Next week I’m flying to GA, and in less than a month I’ll be going to a bachelorette trip in Nashville. I always always get run down and feel icky after traveling and I just can’t afford it with graduation + the bar exam coming up.
Thieves is Young Living’s main immunity oil. You can diffuse it or apply it topically. I am using thieves as a roller on the bottom of my feet before bed to build up my immune system and hopefully fight off that travel funk. There is also a whole line of household cleaning products with thieves that we can talk about later in another post. Basically this oil is the icky-ness fighter in a tiny bottle and I have a feeling I’m going to be using it religiously.
No more meds – I won’t lie I’m not a big medicine person in general. When I get a cold I never go to the doctor. I just drink some water and smoothies and do a lot of sleeping. I pretty much only take advil when I have a headache, body aches, or cramps. Definitely when I have cramps because they are the worst. But I have always worried about getting an ulcer or overing doing.
When I found out there was an oil for all of the above I was even more excited to go oily. Panaway in the starter kit is great for sore muscles and body aches, you can simply use a roll it on where it hurts. Apply Peppermint on your temples for headache relief… and I don’t have Migraines but if you do check out M-Grain. Young-living also makes a special blend, Dragon Time, to help tame the dragon aka you’re time of the month. You just roll it on your stomach and to help with cramps and hormone imbalance. I’m so excited to test this little baby out and throw out my advil bottle. Digize is great for any tummy or digestion sickness. Copaiba is the fireman, you just roll on anywhere inflamed or put a drop in your water and ingest. Raven or RC are cold fighters, you can roll Raven on your chest when you’re congested and it’ll clear you right up.
This beauty below is my Starter kit all opened up + the diffuser above.
Young Living knew what they were doing when they made the premium starter kit. So many of the oils that I talked about above are included in the kit. Lavender, Frankincense, Thieves, Lemon, Panaway, Copaiba, Digize, Raven, Peppermint + Citrus Fresh and Stress Away. It’s seriously such a great bang for your buck.
